Understanding Central Auditory Processing Disorder and Treatment Recommendations
Starkey CEU courses
Presented by Janette Mongelli
Live WebinarTue, Jul 22, 2025 at 12:00 pm EDT
Course: #41015Level: Intermediate1 Hour
Central auditory processing disorder (CAPD) is a disorder that affects a person's ability to understand auditory stimuli, which can lead to difficulties across a range of necessary daily activities. Although CAPD has been described in the literature since 1954, it is not widely understood; this is complicated by the fact that there are differing approaches to diagnosis and treatment. This course will review the incidence of CAPD, neural underpinnings of CAPD, deficits associated with the disorder, and treatment options.

The Devil is in the Defaults: How Various Signal Processing Strategies Influence Fine-Tuning Decisions in Older Adults
Signia CEU courses
Presented by Navid Taghvaei, AuD, ABAC, CCC-A, Brian Taylor, AuD
Live WebinarTue, Jul 22, 2025 at 2:00 pm EDT
Course: #40918Level: Intermediate1 Hour
As modern hearing aids integrate more artificial intelligence (AI) and other automated features into their devices, it becomes increasingly more challenging to observe how many of these signal processing features work and how they may differ between brands. This course sheds light on this challenge and is divided into parts.
1) An examination of the normally aging human auditory system and the effect these age-related changes have on selecting and fitting hearing aids, using Windle et al’s 2023 fitting guidelines as a starting point.
2) Using case studies, a detailed discussion of underlying signal processing differences between two leading hearing aid brands, and how these differences can influence hearing aid selection and fitting decisions in the clinic.
